We'll Cross That Bridge When We Get There

For some reason, I thought that this summer was going to last forever. But as time does, it flew by in the blink of an eye. Whenever anyone asks me what my next move is, I simply say, "oh, we'll cross that bridge when we get there." Well, here we are, quite literally, at the Brooklyn Bridge & I still have no idea what the hell I'm doing.

I've been applying for a million jobs, going to interviews, looking at apartments...the whole shebang. Trying to be an adult is the weirdest transition in the whole world. I keep thinking that I'll be going back to school in a couple weeks & I'm honestly absolutely hating the uncertainty of not knowing what's coming next for me. As much as I desperately miss Florida (believe me I'm so torn between staying & going), I know that I'll regret it if I don't take a chance at trying to make this whole NYC thing work for at least a year.

Meanwhile, I'm basically waking up in cold sweat, panic attack mode every morning because I don't want to make the wrong decision & end up sleeping in the subway. I'm constantly questioning if trying to stay here is even the right move. But I love it here though, I'm young & any career that I want to have is going to be in industries that are thriving here.

So, what have I got to lose...except my sanity.

 Love,

CollegeFashionista x Beats by Dre

Last week, CollegeFashionista was cool enough to ask Anna, Katie & I to take some photos for a collab that they are doing with Beats by Dre. I personally never thought that I was cool enough to ever wear a pair of Beats but when CF gave us all our pair, I couldn't resist. Now I've been wearing them everywhere & I can't get enough of them. Here's a few of my favorite shots from the shoot which ended up reminding me of a modern day Clueless & I felt like Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" should have been playing the entire time.

Speaking of soundtracks, we were also asked to curate a little list of our 5 favorite songs of the summer for the article but I added a playlist below with a few more songs that I can't get enough of lately ft. The Orwells, The Ramones, TLC, Devo, Mac Demarco, Made Violent + more.

Love,
A

Gurlz Night Out

So, let me just preface this post by saying that I am the first person to completely avoid Times Square all together. It's touristy, obnoxious, loud & messy, which is also the textbook definition of a group of drunk girls in NYC.

After an extremely busy week, a girls night was in order. It's honestly been like pulling teeth trying to get me to go anywhere lately. I'm so tired at the end of the day that all I want to do is slip into my leggings & curl up with my boyfriend, Netflix. Saturday finally won this week, though. I rounded up some of my girlfriends, Lauren, Emily & the incomparable Calzone aka Kali. We all had kind of a late start, but we met up & headed to The High Line in Chelsea. It was gorgeous but PACKED. I started to feel like we were in a single file line for a Disney ride that we were never actually going to get to ride. I cured my woes with a Apple Jasmine popsicle from People's Pops.

When we finally figured out how to get off The High Line, we started walking around trying to find a little place to eat. This can be tricky when you're living on a budget but still want to look like a cool-as-fuck New Yorker. Our question of the night quickly became, "Where can you get a lot of food for a little money?" We finally settled on a little place on the Lower West Side called Riviera Cafe. It wasn't necessarily the most glam place in the world but it had good food, wine, sangria & $4 margaritas. We somehow ended up there for, like, a good three hours.

We moved on to a random little bar to get some kamikaze shots. I do not like liquor, I repeat, DO NOT LIKE LIQUOR. I usually avoid shots at all cost, but my mom taught me what a kamikaze shot is & I haven't looked back. It's my go-to-shot forever because it's the only one that I can even remotely stomach. So, I convinced everyone to get them & they were a hit. Thanks, mom.

Two shots deep each & suddenly we were headed to the one place that I loathe: Times Square. You can see it from miles away & once you're in the thick of it, it actually looks like it's suddenly the middle of the day because of the glow from the thousands of screens. Also, everything is open. Have you ever needed something from Forever 21 in the middle of the night? 'Cause this is your place.

What stupidly drunken night is complete without McDonald's? We all grabbed some burgers & fries and sat on the red steps in the middle of Times Square. We laughed at everything, stared wide-eyed at the the sparkly things around us & Kali literally made the prettiest faces the entire time (as per usual).

In my drunken stupor, I was absolutely enamored by the entire thing. You can just feel the energy & everyone is so excited to be there. It's contagious. So contagious that we felt compelled to have a Spice Girls moment. #GIRLPOWER, baby.

Here's to good friends, junk food & strong kamikazes.

Love,
A

Who's Your GIRL?

I'm going to start this post rather abruptly by saying that if you haven't watched HBO's GIRLS, you are doing something wrong with your life.

First aired in April of this year, GIRLS was created, written, and directed by 26 year old Lena Dunham. Dunham is said to be "the voice of our generation" and I'd have to agree because every thing that this girl creates is pure gold. In case you didn't recognize Lena's name, maybe you might recognize the name Judd Apatow. Apatow produces the show and works closely with Lena on each episode.

The show takes place in New York and is often compared to Sex & the City but slightly toned down and much more realistic. The show follows Hannah Horvath, Marnie Michaels, Jessa Johansson & Shoshanna Shapiro through the ups and downs of love, the city, and the rapidly approaching realization that adulthood is upon them.

While I was perusing the Intenet (avoiding homework), I found paper dolls inspired by each of the girls, which in turn inspired me to pull together some character inspired outfits from my point of view.

Personally, I relate stylistically with Hannah & Jessa. I love how Hannah incorporates tights, florals, and cardigans into her outfits. Jessa is the edgiest of the four and I really admire that about her. She also rocks the hell out of that British swag* she has going for her.

GIRLS  will be back for their second season in January 2013. If you need to catch up on the first season, you can find the episodes on the HBO On Demand.

*I deeply regret using the word 'swag' on my blog but a better word never came to mind.

So, which GIRL are you?
