Looking Forward

The past couple of weeks have been so hectic for J & I. We took our film final last week (J got a 101 & I got a 96, he literally always beats me)& we were itching to have a little downtime before classes start up again in the fall. I turned 21 this past Monday  which was fun but unsettling at the same time because suddenly I have no interest in growing up anymore & it frightens me how quickly time is passing me by. It was really nice to get together with my family & reminisce on old times. My mom was feeling nostalgic & bought me a gorgeous, hand-painted bottle of Perrier-Jouet  because she & my father drank it when I was born. She also bought me the loveliest cake from my favorite cake shop in Tampa, Cakes Plus. Their house specialty cake is absolutely decadent.

I'm only two days in & my 21st year is already shaping up to be the best one yet. I found out that I was accepted to participate in CollegeFashionista's fall internship, which is exciting because I'll be writing about what I love & building my resume at the same time ( J hates when I talk about resume-building). My mom, dad, Jake & I are leaving bright & early tomorrow morning & heading to New York City for the rest of the week. I am so looking forward to traipsing around the city, eating a bunch of delicious food, shopping my little heart out & exploring with my favorite people. J & I totally have a case of the wanderlust bug & we take advantage of any opportunity to travel & explore together.

One of our favorite things to do together is to go to shows to see bands that we love. We have so many shows planned coming up in the next couple of months. We're seeing Joyce Manor & Glocca Morra in Brooklyn while we're in New York, which is going to be amazing because J & I saw JM together in Orlando earlier this year. We're also going to see The Backstreet Boys later this month (holy childhood dreams come true) & Depeche Mode in September. About a week ago, Jake was feeling all depressed because the Palma Violets // Skaters show that he was looking forward to was cancelled & while he was double checking the venues schedule he casually saw that our favorite band as a couple, The Vaccines, is coming to Orlando at The Social on September FRIDAY THE 13th. The both of us just looked at each other, screamed & immediately ordered tickets. I know it sounds obsessive, but this will be the third time that we have seen them this year, in a third different state. Yeah, okay it's safe to say that we might have a problem...

Today J & I got ourselves mentally prepared for the trip by running some last minute errands & popping into a little hot dog shop around the corner that we have been wanting to try, Twinz Big City Hot Dogs. In classic Aisha style, I managed to get more of the hot dog on myself than I did in my actual mouth & the garlic parmesan fries were absolutely to die for. I can't wait to eat a real New York style hot dog in the city on the steps of the MET. Keep your eyes & ears peeled for a fully-loaded New York trip post when we get home.

A

Mai Thai

Today (after begrudgingly being yanked out of bed) I finally got around to taking Jake to the Thai temple in Tampa. This was exciting for me because I'm part Thai & I used to go to Wat Mongkolratanaram with my family when I was little. On Sunday mornings they sell food to raise money for the temple & they offer lots of authentic Thai food, drinks & desserts for a fraction of what you would spend at a Thai restaurant. The location is gorgeous because it's right on the water, underneath tons of tall trees. As soon as we arrived, I hopped in line for some beef noodle soup ($5 per bowl) & Jake picked up some Thai iced coffee for only $1. We found a table in the shade & chatted while we ate. Afterwards, I picked up some mango sticky rice ($5) & other kinds of kanom for Jake & I to try. He was a little unsure about it at first, but I think that he eventually grew on him.

If you are looking for a fun Sunday morning outing & want to try something new, definitely check out Wat Mongkolratanaram because it's an interesting cultural experience & a great way to taste authentic Thai cuisine on the cheap.

Catching Up

As much as I hate to admit this in print, I have completely neglected  my beloved Stellar Piece  because I have been an extremely busy girl lately. Luckily, I've been preoccupied in the best of ways. October has been good to me this year and I want to fill you in with all of the marvelous things that I have been up to this month.

My brand new walk-in closet is finally done. It doesn't really matter though because I'm still trying to figure out how to organize my plethora of clothes. I have had to part ways with way too many pieces of clothing, yet my room is still a complete disaster. I'll let you know if I ever dig myself out of this mountain of clothes that I insist on keeping even though I will never wear them.

If you don't know about Maddie the Coonhound, I truly feel bad for you as a human. Her owner travels all over the place with her and takes photographs of Maddie doing outlandish things. So I snapped a shot of my puppy, Bentley, doing just about the only thing he was capable of doing. Slightly underwhelming, but nevertheless cute.

I finally just got through the worst cold that I have had in a very long time, so I've been taking advantage of the fact that I have the energy to dress myself again. Here are a few of the outfits I have donned this past week. As you can tell, I have been incorporating a ton of denim, leather, and random pops of color as we transition into Fall. It's still a sweltering 90 degrees outside on most days though, but hopefully my outfits can persuade the weather to do otherwise.

Halloween is coming up next week and I haven't the slightest clue about what I will be wearing. Leandra Medine of The Man Repeller did a post about Halloween costumes where she suggested Margot Tenenbaum as an option, which completely stole my heart. On my latest trip to Target, I did try to squeeze into this rocket ship costume, but the results were less than satisfactory.
On a side note, I had a run-in with massive amount of zombie ducks the other night, which was more terrifying than you might imagine.

I think the ultimate reason that October has been so lovely for me is because I've been spending the month getting to know the most wonderful human. I am currently the happiest I have been in a very long time. Jake is the very best: cuddler //skateboarder // drive in movie buddy // cube // Economics teacher // professional Pizza Roll chef  that I could have ever hoped to meet. Also did I mention that he doesn't mall grab, I mean what more could I ask for...

I will leave you all with this photo of Tard the Grumpy Cat to level out the sappiness than just took place.
